Information for Umpires

PLAYERS!  EARN MONEY ON THE BASEBALL FIELD - WE NEED YOU!
REGISTER TO UMPIRE IN 2025, THE BEST YOUTH JOB IN WEST MARIN

We are looking for responsible individuals (Little League age 12 and up) to work in pairs, take command of the field and make the calls for our over 175 games in AA, AAA, Majors and Juniors divisions.  For most of you, this will be your first job where you will learn to be decisive, build self-confidence, accountability, and responsibility.  WE NEED YOU!

WMLL will be holding mandatory umpire training sessions – tentatively scheduled for the weekend of Assessments 1/25 & 1/26.  PARENTS - Have your youth umpire take this online Little League training course in advance!

Game scheduling for umpires is handled in the app Assignr.  Contact our Umpire in Chief Greg Skaug using [email protected] to get registered.

2025 PAY RATES

Minors Games (AA, AAA):  $40 Plate Umpire, $35 Field Umpire

Majors Games: $50 Plate Umpire, $45 Field Umpire

Juniors Games: $75 Plate Umpire, $60 Field Umpire

GAME SCHEDULING RULES

General Umpire Scheduling Rules 

  • All game assignments scheduled in the app Assignr
  • Payment is handled via Assignr
  • Games are released for umpires to select from in 2-3 week increments
  • Two game cap at all levels during initial 48 hours after a batch of games is released (with some limited exceptions for experienced Majors umpires)
  • League age 11 year olds may ONLY umpire AA games, in the field
  • You cannot umpire in the Division that you play in
  • It is OK to umpire a sibling's game, but only as a field umpire
  • Cell phone numbers are for official League use only.  NO Cell Phone use during the games!
  • Anyone with suggestions on how to improve the umpire scheduling process has officially volunteered to be in charge of umpire scheduling next year  (OK, this last one is a joke, kind of)

Juniors:

  • For our umpires attending High School.  Must be League age 15 or older

Majors:

  • Must be League age 13 or older
  • Plate umpires must have at least 5 AAA games of Plate umpire experience
  • Only sign up for one game per day during initial 48 hour sign up period

 AAA

  • Must be League age 12 or older
  • Must be a second year ump and have at least 5 AA games experience
  • Plate umpires must have at least 3 games of AA Plate umpire experience

 AA

  • While not a hard and fast rule, AA is intended for 1st year umpires or returning umpires who need additional experience to qualify for AAA

PHIL TORRES UMPIRING AWARD

Our youth umpires are eligible to receive the Phil Torres Umpiring Award announced each year on Opening Day.  The award recognizes the outstanding work and dedication to our League of one of our fine youth umpires.  The award is in memory of Phil Torres who was a longstanding WMLL and District 3 volunteer umpire.  Phil was known for taking a keen interest in the quality of the kids' baseball experience, while also being passionate about his umpiring responsibilities.
